Cairns helicopters and the media - natural bedfellows !

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

Everybody loves helicopters ! Whenever media organisations are looking to bring excitement and something special to an event, a news story, a promotion or a competition - Cairns helicopter tours are always front and centre. A helicopter flying overhead, or particularly in close proximity at an event will always capture people's attention - they bring a thrill and a unique perspective to news stories and the ability to access remote locations quickly and easily when required.

Being located in a comparatively remote part of Australia, Cairns' surrounding landscape and its relative inaccessibility make helicopter flights one of the most cost effective, if not the only way to access certain areas.

Competitions and promotions are one of the most common areas of collaboration between media organisations and helicopter operators, with Cairns scenic flights and exclusive tours and charters around the Great Barrier Reef and tropical rainforests being very popular prizes - firing the imaginations of the contestants wanting to experience the thrill of a Cairns helicopter ride for the first time.

At Zoom Helicopters, we work with local, state and national media firms to bring that unique helicopter experience to their event coverage and promotional activities. Since our launch a few months ago, we have worked with Channel 7, covering the Cairns Cup - a highlight of the local horse racing calendar, using our on-board video capability to facilitate pieces to camera while in flight en-route to the racetrack at Canon Park. As part of the event, we worked with the Cairns Jockey Club who offered a Cairns helicopter flight and transfer into the event to the lucky winners who were absolutely thrilled.

Very recently, we collaborated with the HitFM FNQ team to give a taste of the millionaire lifestyle to one of the contestants on their Alphabucks competition. We took the contestant and Gabi (of Cliffo and Gabi) fame on a Great Barrier Reef scenic flight out to Vlassof Sand Cay to drink champagne and soak up the Reef in all its visual glory.

Working with radio and TV companies is a great way to showcase what you do and there is no better way than to take the journalists and presenters up on a Cairns scenic flight so they can experience it for themselves and accurately convey the fun and thrill of 'getting high' over the city and the Great Barrier Reef !
